SQUADRA knows the power of technology. But when it is applied to improve lives and create solutions for those who need it most, our mission to drive meaningful impact becomes even more powerful.

That is why we are participating in the Microsoft Tech for Social Impact (TSI) Hack4Good 3.0, a global hackathon organized by Microsoft for Nonprofits. As part of the Global Nonprofit Leaders' Summit, this initiative brings together nonprofits, Microsoft experts, technology partners, and students to tackle real-world challenges faced by humanitarian organizations.

We are competing alongside 14 multinational companies, and on March 26, in collaboration with the University of Maryland, Utah State University, and Microsoft, we will present our solution for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) — an organization dedicated to eradicating pediatric HIV/AIDS and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow up healthy.

Our initiative goes beyond technology: we will harness artificial intelligence to create a positive impact on the health and well-being of children living with HIV/AIDS and their families.

ONG

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is a global leader in the fight against HIV and pediatric AIDS. Founded with the mission to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmission, EGPAF advances research, strengthens healthcare systems, and advocates for policies that make a difference in the lives of thousands of children and families.

Despite significant progress, nearly 10,000 young people are still infected with HIV every week, making the development of new technological solutions essential to support this cause.

Among 13 other projects, we stood out and secured our spot in the grand final, where we became runners-up, bringing the 2nd place trophy from Seattle to Brazil.

What We Developed & Project Impact

EGPAF operates in multiple countries, managing a vast amount of critical data on the pediatric HIV/AIDS epidemic. Today, they have an average of 1.7 billion rows in their database. However, accessing and interpreting this information to make fast and strategic decisions remains a challenge.

Given this scenario, our team had a single mission: to accelerate decisions that save lives. In just 20 days, we developed a fully integrated technological solution capable of transforming access to critical information. Inspired by the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture, the tool allows users to ask questions in natural language and receive precise, contextualized answers extracted directly from the foundation’s databases.

Our approach goes far beyond a simple AI application. The development started with the creation of a robust data warehouse, consolidating and standardizing fragmented data from 16 countries where EGPAF operates. This enabled the structuring of a unified and coherent database, essential for ensuring accurate and agile analysis.

With Microsoft Fabric support, we built a semantic model on this consolidated database, enabling advanced, multidimensional interpretations and the extraction of strategic insights.

The key differentiator of this solution lies in the implementation of advanced AI agents capable of processing large volumes of information (chain-of-thought reasoning) and generating structured, contextualized, and actionable responses.

The intuitive and user-friendly interface ensures that anyone—even without technical knowledge—can access and use the tool without barriers. With this solution, EGPAF specialists, researchers, and other stakeholders can, for example, ask:
👉 "How many children are living with HIV in Kenya, and what are their age and gender distributions?"
👉 "What has been the trend in treatment adherence over the past 12 months in Malawi?"

Within seconds, they receive structured answers with intuitive graphs.

This innovation eliminates the need for time-consuming manual queries, democratizing access to information and enabling crucial decisions to be made faster and more accurately. Unlike other solutions that require developers to extract data, our approach makes this process accessible to any user, reducing barriers and accelerating responses.

The direct impact is clear: greater efficiency in treatment and better prospects for children living with HIV/AIDS.
